EDIT 10/2015: Although this is old, I find it reposted everywhere. Please keep in mind that posting this elsewhere is ONLY okay if you credit me, something ridiculously few people do. It would mean a lot to me, thank you.

Although I haven't been drawing that much lately due to playing too much Skyrim, I still managed to finish this. I've been working on it for a while.

Inspired by Camille Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyknBT… and also partly inspired by Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain: www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCEDfZ…
Yeah... I'm not that creative with titles.

I first heard Danse Macabre when my dad's orchestra played it. I started listening to it and fell in love with it. The song is originally about Death who plays their violin to awaken the dead. I still don't think the woman on my drawing is my interpretation of Death, in my head she's more of a sorceress or a necromancer.

This is the second time I've drawn skeletons (and made an effort) so sorry for the anatomical mistakes (mostly the ribcage, those were awful to draw). Here's my first practice if you're interested: i41.tinypic.com/2wgg3sy.png

I'm not sure what the black and red smoke underneath them is, my idea was that the skeletons are coming out of some sort of... black.. abyss... thing. I'll stop rambling now.

I hope you like it! :)

Very lazy step-by-step (sketching) here: i41.tinypic.com/fxgmrt.png
Media used: GIMP 2.6, 57 layers.
Reference for pose: By Kechake-stock fav.me/d233cyr The woman in my drawing was also partly inspired by the picture on the video for the song.
Reference for violin: A violin my dad made. Mine turned out a little too big though.
